Jalan Besar Community Club Moon Cake Festival Celebrations - mainly for kids.
The Peoples Association Headquarters, is built on the former campus of Christ Church Secondary School (temporary campus) and Victoria School. The Architecture is rich in history and now a place for community activities.
The inflated castle. Look at the bottom left hand corner for the 2 red pumps.
The power of VELCRO. Matthew was stuck there for a while.

The Jalan Besar Stadium, has been along Tywritt Road for more than half a century. This is the place that witness various triumphs and tribulations, where Singaporeans scream till they loose their voice over a Malaysia Cup match.
The PA building and the JBS are now part of the History Trail of Jalan Besar.

The HOWS and WHYS ...
Students never fail to fascinate me when they ask WHY instead of HOW. Here is an example that happens today. (I crafted it into a question and answer session)
Student: How does light behave when it passes from air to a glass block?
Teacher: The light ray bends according to Snell's Law.
Student: How does the speed of light change as it passes from air to a glass block?
Teacher: The speed of light decreases.
Student: Why does the speed of light decrease?

Teacher: The speed of light decreases.
Student: Why does the speed of light decrease?
Teacher: The molecules in a denser medium will cause the light to slow down.
Student: Is energy lost in this process?
Teacher: You can say that.
Student: But how come the speed of light goes back to normal when it leaves the block?
Teacher: *~*

Food for thought.

Gratitude
The Kongsi contributes 75% of its yearly surplus to the Ngee Ann polytechnic; and to date, it has donated about $100 million to the polytechnic.
But a change in the ordinance in 2007, parliament has approved and decreed that the Kongsi will henceforth reduce the donation to 25% of the yearly surplus, while the remaining amount be donated to other educational institutions in Singapore. The Kongsi now contributes 25% of its revenues to the polytechnic since the change in the Ngee Ann Kongsi (Incorporation) Ordinance, which was passed in July 2007.
Among the first educational institutions to benefit from the new adjustment are:
School of Science and Technology, Singapore SGD$8.1 million
SYFC-SST news
Leadership = Ability + Influence
Tay Yong Hong (S208) represented the SST-SYFC in the Inter-schools Aeromodelling Competition 2012 - Flight Simulator Junior category and won himself a consolation prize. But what is more significant is that he has played a significant role in transforming the SST-SYFC into a purposefully-designed CCA in SST. Under his leadership, the club members improved from totally unranked in 2011 to 50% ranked in 2012 in the Flight Simulation category. The numerous hours of planning and training for the club members yield significant improvements in this year's performance. Yong Hong's selfless contribution to the club is significant, as he exemplifies the SST goal of developing Dynamic Leaders in service of others.
